Bio: Captain Jimmy Phan, owner/operator of Fresh Off the Boat Charters, has spent over a decade in the salt waters off of the Gulf of Mexico. He holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain’s License and a Texas Parks & Wildlife All‑Water Fishing Guide license, plus certifications in USCG‑approved First Aid, CPR, and AED.

With an abundance of species available year-round, he targets some of the fastest, most aggressive species around; Warsaw grouper, swordfish, red snapper and more. Captain Jimmy has developed a strong social media presence through his tik tok account as well as has revamped his YouTube Channel where he shares his adventures, whether its fishing from a jet ski, something he’s enjoyed doing for 20+ years or taking people out for a family fun-filled adventure.

1. What should I bring on the tour?

We recommend bringing sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a light jacket, and comfortable clothing. Don’t forget drinks, food and snacks, and any necessary medications if you're feeling sea sick. We’ll provide bottle water and soda upon availability, bait, tackle, and gear set up.

2. Are the trips suitable for children?

Yes! Our boat trips are family-friendly and suitable for children of all ages. Type 1 Coast Guard-approved life jackets for kids are provided, and our captain is trained to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip for everyone.

3. What happens in case of bad weather?

Safety is our top priority. If weather conditions are unsafe, we may cancel or reschedule your tour. You will be notified as early as possible and offered a full refund or an alternative date.

4. Can I bring food or drinks on board?

Absolutely. You are welcome to bring snacks and beverages (including alcohol in moderation). Just be sure to keep the boat tidy and respect others on board.

No glass containers and no bananas please! Did you know bananas are bad luck on fishing trips? We don’t want to jinx your big catch, so let’s keep them off the boat.
